ABOUT THE ARTIST
Prof. Michael Kwong was born in Hong Kong in 1972, studied in Columbus College of Art & Design and worked as an illustrator in United State after graduation, In 2002, he finally moved back to Hong Kong to continue his artistic career. Prof. Kwong has taught in different universities included Shantou University, Xiamen University and Savannah College of Art and Design. At the same time, he has been working as a pop art and abstract expressionist painter creating art pieces that combining eastern culture characteristic and western painting technique together.
A successful illustration should be able to tell a good story to its audience! If a work has only superficial patterns without the author's perspective and thought, it can only consider as a decorative artefact. Such works have no creative contribution to human art and culture.

The latest works by local illustrator Michael Kwong had been showcased from December 22, 2005 to January 5, 2006 at the Exhibition Gallery of Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Young Hong Kong artist Michael Kwong has a passion for drawing and since childhood has aspired to hold a solo exhibition. To realise his dream of becoming a painter, he studied illustration at the Columbus College of Art and Design, USA. He then returned to Hong Kong, founded Locomotive Production Limited and engaged in illustration, product and graphic design. In this journey, he faced many difficulties and obstacles.
In this exhibition, Michael Kwong has chosen illustration as his artistic language. Entitled as "Es Muss Sein" (German for "It Must Be"), the exhibition refers to words written on the movement of a string quartet composed by Beethoven, representing Michael's determination to make his dream fulfilled.
